The Squash Hall of Fame at White Oaks Resort & Spa is Expanding

November, Toronto, Ontario

The dream of a Hall of Fame dedicated and committed to honouring extraordinary contributions of squash athletes and volunteers, came together in 2005.  For the first four years, the Hall was virtual but in 2007, it took on a physical presence at The Club at White Oaks Resort and Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  And our thanks always to the Wakil family for its continuing support.

Six subsequent inductions added more members and now, the Hall needs to expand to accommodate future members and memorabilia.  The Board of Governors found it had more donors than the current “Friends of Squash” recognition plaque could accommodate.  With thanks to Ernest Howard, we have confirmed the creation of a new, easily maintained and larger “Friends of Squash” plaque that will last for many years.

The facelift will also include moving various display cases and member photos.  We thank Jon LeHeup, Arnold Massey, John Hirst, Tim Griffin, David and Wendy Jarvis, Craig Hall, Michael Hobart and Walker Lynch for their support along with past donors and supporters.

Work will begin in the new year with a completion date of mid-February 2020.  The Club at White Oaks will be hosting the Canadian Championships in May 2020, an event which traditionally attracts more than 300 athletes – we encourage all squash players, parents, coaches, officials and volunteers to plan to visit the Hall.  It is your Hall – they are your heroes.

Inductions to the Hall are every two years with the next one in 2021.  The Board of Governors, chaired by Dr. Anne Smith, will release the nomination information in the fall of 2020.  We hope you will be inspired to nominate a player or builder {coach, volunteer, official} who has made an extraordinary contribution to the game.
