SAMANTHA CORNETT

1991 -

Samantha was first introduced to squash at the Deep River Curling and Squash Club where she grew up playing with her parents and sister. Once hooked on squash, Samantha moved to Ottawa to train with coaches Vihar Joshi and Heather Wallace, and after graduating secondary school she moved to Toronto and trained with Jessica DiMauro.

Samantha has an outstanding record at the Provincial, National, and international levels. Between her junior and senior playing career, Samantha amassed 17 provincial titles. Between 2005 and 2009, Samantha won two Under 15, two Under 17 and three Under 19 provincial titles. While competing as a senior between 2010 and 2022, Samatha secured 10 Women’s Open titles and another two hardball doubles titles.

On the national stage, Samantha earned nine national titles including Canadian Junior Closed Under 17 in 2007, Canadian Junior Open Under 17 in 2008, Canadian Women’s Closed in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019, Canadian University Championships in 2020 and 2022, and represented Team Ontario during the 2010, 2018, and 2019 Canadian Women’s Team Championships.

At the International level, Samantha competed for Team Canada at World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2009, at the Pan American Games in 2011 in Mexico, winning Team Gold and Individual Silver, in 2015 in Toronto winning Team Silver, Doubles Silver, and Individual Bronze, and in 2019 in Peru winning Team Silver, Doubles Silver and Individual Bronze. She was a member of the Senior National Team from 2010 to 2022 and competed in the Commonwealth Games in 2010 (India), 2014 (Scotland) and 2018 (Australia).

Playing professionally, Samantha has won 13 Women’s Professional Championships over her long career and reached a Highest World Ranking of #23 in 2018.
